Campsite Studio Owner, Designer, Artist Max Ritt

Max Ritt is a designer and the owner of Campsite, a studio and design blog based in New York. Campsite provides intuitive, minimalist design solutions for branding through web and print mediums. Their philosophy is simple: “It’s never too late to make something better. Working tirelessly to distill down ideas and goals to deliver a final product, which synthesizes intention, organization, simplicity and design”. We couldn’t agree more.

KSS: Who is Max Ritt? What do you and why?

I am a New York-based user experience and branding designer. I work mainly with smaller brands and startups to help them realize their vision or needs. Our work spans strategic planning, branding, identity development, user experience design, digital product design, full-service web design and implementation.

KSS: How did you get started as a designer?

I have always had a knack for seeing where a problem or flaw exists and devising creative solutions to fix it.

KSS: When did you realize you had a passion for design?

My passion for design is rooted in creative problem solving. In multi-disciplinary design there is never a shortage of problems to solve. I realized I had a passion for design when I created Campsite. I wanted to create a platform that highlighted unique designs from all over the world. Campsite did just that, providing a space for like-minded individuals and creatives.

KSS: What does design mean to you?

Great design to me is invisible. It highlights or improves the aesthetic and function of a product or location it lives in without being immediately evident.

KSS: What does a brand mean to you?

To me brand is the way a company, business or institution communicates its value, ethos and aesthetic to the world.

KSS: What’s one quote that you live by?

“Design is everything. Everything” – Paul Rand

KSS: What has been one of the highlights of your career?

Every new idea or project feels like the highlight to me. That feeling of “ah ha” each time I come up with a new concept or solution. It solidifies why I enjoy designing and why I wake up excited to do it everyday.

KSS: How are you an industry leader?

My reasoning for deciding to go off on my own and start Campsite Studio is definitely something that sets me apart. We are able to select our clients and projects based on our interest and passions. We view each of our clients as our peers and partners, and, as a result, we keep progressing to do more, setting the bar for movers and shakers in the industry.
